Israel has attacked the capital of Qatar in a strike targeting the leadership of Hamas, expanding its military actions across the Middle East and drawing fierce condemnation from Doha.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the Israeli military had carried out a “wholly independent” operation against the “top terrorist chieftains of Hamas”.

An Israeli official told Israel’s Channel 12 that US president Donald Trump had given the green light for the strike, but the US president is yet to publicly comment on the attack.
